Job Description

The School of Physics & Astronomy is seeking an ambitious Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work with Dr Claudia Cyganowski and an international team on studies of accretion bursts in massive protostars using ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array) observations.  The successful applicant will work primarily on the processing, analysis, and publication of ALMA data.

The successful candidate will have (or be near to completion of) a PhD in astronomy, astrophysics, or a closely related field, with experience of processing/imaging ALMA data and expertise in mm-wavelength studies of high-mass star-forming regions or mm-wavelength variability studies.  The position is supported by an UKRI/STFC Small Award and is available for a starting date of 1 July 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter, for a period of three years.  Later start dates are possible and can be discussed.  The position includes funds for computing and travel.

The School of Physics & Astronomy offers a vibrant and modern work environment. Astrophysics research in St Andrews combines theoretical, numerical and observational research in star formation, protoplanetary discs, extra-solar planets, stellar magnetic activity, star-planet interaction, gravitational lensing, active galactic nuclei, galaxy dynamics and cosmology. The School hosts members of the cross-disciplinary Center for Exoplanet Science and astronomers in the School have access to the Las Cumbres Observatory.

Candidates should send a cover letter, CV, publication list, and a brief statement of research experience and interest through the online application system. Letters of reference will be requested at the time of interview.
